Somaliland:Two days consultation Meeting on the Proposed Terrorism Suppression Bill Opens

The parliamentary committee on internal Affairs today for the first time met with civil societies groups to discuss issues regarding the proposed Somaliland Terrorism Suppression Bill which is expected to be tabled soon in parliament.
The parliamentary committee during the meeting discussed proposed Somaliland Terrorism Suppression Bill including the recently proposed amendments which are more alarming from a civil liberties standpoint with members of the judiciary, Somaliland lawyers association , Human rights groups and others concerned party .
The civil societies groups during the meeting expressed their worries that if the proposed Somaliland Terrorism Suppression is enacted the government will overreach and seek to accumulate unwarranted power hence need to protect civil liberties while combating terrorism.
The meeting is expected to produce recommendations which provide guidelines that will govern the implementation of any future Terrorism Suppression law after it concludes tomorrow.
