Three members of same family died after being mowed down by a speeding car in shocking road accident which occurred on Sunday in the Maslaha area, Hargeisa.
Col. Feisal Hess Elmi, the commandant of Somaliland traffic police speaking to reporters said, “The dead three children, two boys and a girl were crushed by speeding car veered from the tarmac in Maslaha area, next to Egal international Airport.
The Police were notified, reacted swiftly and found the three young victims still lying on the ground next to the road with serious injuries,” he said.
Col. Feisal Hess Elmi said the two boys died on the spot and girl was rushed to hospital by ambulance but was declared dead on arrival.
He added, “The driver is in police custody and investigations were continuing
“The police condemn reckless driving, especially speeding by the drivers along the roads and streets which are crossing in and around the schools,” he said.
Mr. Abdiilahi Saleban, heartbroken father of the deceased children speaking to reporters at the Hargeisa general hospital said, “My children were safe and sound when I left home this morning, I was informed of the incident while at work, I then rushed to hospital but unfortunately the two boys aged 13 and 15 were already dead. My daughter, 20 yrs passed away shortly after, I arrived at the hospital.
A double tragedy for the family, since the tragic death of the three children comes just weeks after their late mother passed away.
In 2017, There were 197 deaths, 2,300 and above persons were maimed or injured as a result of road accidents in our roads and the financial and property loss incurred amounted to more than $3 Million dollars.
