SomalilandPress-Somaliland government officials and representatives of four major international oil companies namely Genel, DNO, RAK GAS, ANSAN WIKFI to discuss ways to expedite oil exploration and extraction in the country which is expected to start in early 2015.

This comes a week following the Presidential Decree No. JSL/M/XERM/249-2800/092014issued by his Excellency President H.E. Ahmed Mohammed Mahmoud Silanyo announced the creation of the specialized crack force which will be charged with the protection of both the prospective exploration and drilling of oil in the country.
The Minister of Energy Hon Hussein Abdi Dualeh speaking to reporters said During the duration of conference other things which will be high on the agenda will be the issue of how the Somaliland shall work with its partners shall embark on a major public awareness and engagement with the community and to establish a security protective force to protect to ensure the safety of expatriates while executing their operation before any major operation begins in earnest.
Somaliland Minister of Interior Hon Mohamed Ali Waran Cade also speaking to members of the press said, Today(yesterday)with all four oil companies operating in Somaliland to brief them on the OPU tender process evaluation results and the plan forward.
Hon Waran Cade added , “ The creation of the OPU became imperative given the need of peaceful security and stability around and at the locales of operations as per international norm given the monumental costs of inputs and expected outputs.
The President who is the Commander in Chief of all security armed forces has the prerogative to create, if need be, any security arm or divisional department.
Given the fact that the administration has stepped up the efforts and in essence, prioritized the subjective unveiling and objective availing of the natural resources, such that the sector may be gainfully developed and justifiably guarded.
All four oil companies have recently signed contract with the government of Somaliland to begin work on their respective blocks in late 2014 or early 2015.
