The Minister of Energy and Minerals Hon Hussein Abdi Dualeh hosted a well-attended dinner in honor of visiting members of Somaliland Diaspora living in Sheffield and who were critical in lobbying for the recent recognition of Somaliland independence by Sheffield city council at Ambassador Hotel last night.
Hon Hussein Abdi Dualeh speaking at last night event said, “First and for most ,i wish to take this opportunity here tonight to welcome and thank on behalf of the people of Somaliland and the government members of the Sheffield committee tasked with lobbying for the country’s independence for their undertakings and also their very bold and unprecedented efforts which lead to the tabling of the motion by the Sheffield’s city council and which got the passed by 83 out the 86 councilors for the recognition Somaliland’s independence .This was clearly a very historic moment for all the people of Somaliland throughout the world.
Hon Ali Said Raygal, the Minister of Sports, Culture, and Youth Affairs addressing those attending the dinners event said, “ It’s the duty of Somaliland citizen to serve his country having said this I would like to praise the good work of the visiting Sheffield committee and I also call on all Somaliland communities to advocate for Somaliland independence case -and I urge you to emulate the good work of this Sheffield committee.
Somaliland Minister of Environment and Rural Development Hon Shukri Haji Ismail Bandare was among the dignitaries speaking at the dinner said, “In the last 23 years, the people of Somaliland have achieved much and we those living inside the country and those in the diaspora have jointly also worked so tirelessly and passionately to show the rest of the world that Somaliland deserves a diplomatic ”recognition” for the last 23 years and after people heard that the city of Sheffield had recognized Somaliland they started asking who was it behind this, little did they know that it was you who had in the less than one and half years managed to convince the people of Sheffield that Somaliland really deserved international recognition and that’s why our flag today fly’s high in Sheffield.
The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Hon Maulid Mahmoud Ibrahim speaking at the venue said, “Today we gather here not only to laud the Sheffield committee for a job well done but to also explore ways in which we can work with the Sheffield committee so that they can share their experience with other Somaliland living elsewhere so that when their time comes in the future they can be well informed on how to maneuver about and I want to say that the efforts by the Sheffield committee for the country’s independence shall go down into history books and we shall always be proud of you ,once again I say thank you all.
On the hand the Sheffield committee briefed those attending the dinner of the many challenges since they embarked on their campaign to convince the Sheffield city council to acknowledge Somaliland independence.
Among the dozens of dignitaries attending the dinner hosted by the Minister of Energy in Honor of the Sheffield committee were the Mayor of Hargeisa Abdurrahman Aideed Solteco ,Secretary general of the Justice and Welfare Party ‘UCID” Hon Abdinassir Qodah and Hon Abdi Qadir Indho Indho MP just to name a few.
