Hon Mohamed Bihi Yunis, the Minister of Foreign Affairs met with the Deputy Special Representative for the Secretary General, Rai Zenenga and other Senior UNSOM officials. In a cordial and productive meeting, they discussed a number of political and development matters.
The Special Representative noted that Somaliland had earned an enormous amount of respect in the international community for maintaining stability in a volatile region, for establishing an inclusive democratic tradition and for putting in place effective governance systems. He was also thankful that the issue of the elections had been resolved in a satisfactory manner. He noted with gratitude with the warm welcome he had received in Somaliland and looked forward to returning again in the near future.
The FM thanked the Representative for the UN’s efforts to bring peace to the Horn of Africa Region and discussed the possibility of the UN offering increased capacity-building and technical support to Somaliland. He also requested the UN to play a constructive role in facilitating a credible dialogue with Somalia. He welcomed the visit of the Special Representative and looked forward to a friendly and cooperative working relationship between Somaliland and the UN
