SomalilandPress-The 2nd Somali Peace Festival opened today in Hotel Guleed, Hargeisa, the event was organized by local firm KOW MEDIA CORPS in collaboration with IREX Europe, IREX this follows the success of the first festival organized which was previously held in Hargeisa in 2012 and two other similar successive events previously highlighting the best entries of the festival held in Mogadishu and one in Nairobi, Kenya.
Today event attracted artists and amateurs from the Horn of Africa and the Diaspora who had previously submitted their respective entries to the three categories; film, photo and art. Their work was displayed at the festival, along with performances by famous Somali musicians, poets, artists and actors.
The event attracted local and regional audience and the Somali diaspora communities as well as the international community.
The managing director of KOW Media Corporation Mr. Abdullah Farah addressing participants marking the start of 2nd Somali Peace Festival gave a brief history of the Somali Peace festival.
Mr. Abdullah Farah, the managing director of KOW Media Corporation speaking at the event today said, “Today’s event was mainly focused on the hand drawing picture competition which has attracted both local and foreign artists who participated in the competition, he added a penal of six judges, three local and three foreign shall announce the winners of the competition on the final day.
The 2nd Somali Peace Festival follows the success of the first festival organized in Hargeisa , Somaliland in March 2012 by IREX Europe and KMC (KOW Media Corporation). Entries by participating artists portrayed messages of peace and tolerance, showing images of courage and a vision of a better future. Finalists of this year will have their work displayed at tomorrow the last day of the two-day festival in Hargeisa, with an awards ceremony capping the final day attracting a large audience.
Hargeisa the capital of Somaliland is considered to be a fitting location as one of the most peaceful cities in the region and in Africa.
