Somaliland: Tackle Abuses against People with Mental Disabilities
Human Rights Watch is pleased to invite you to a news conference at 10:00 a.m. on Monday 26 October, at the Maan-Soor hotel in Hargeisa, for the release of a new report documenting abuses against people with mental disabilities, including abusive restraints, beatings, involuntary treatment, overcrowding in private and public health centers. The report, based on a year of research, including visits to eight public and private mental health institutions, calls on the Somaliland government to immediately prohibit abusive practices, and work towards establishing voluntary community-based services for people with mental disabilities.
