Dr. Saad Ali Shire, Somaliland minister of foreign affairs and international cooperation today urged the international community and its partners to denounce Puntland aggression and assert pressure to stop launching further incursion into Somaliland territories in an interview with a local Somali language newspaper “Geeska Afrika'”.
The foreign minister while responding to a recent statement issued by its partners and the international community expressing their concerns over the latest armed clashes taking place last week near the town of Tukaraq in Sool region between Puntland and ‘Somaliland forces, “The government of Somaliland calls upon the international community to denounce this naked aggression on our sovereignty by Puntland and the federal government of Somalia,
“People living in Sool region need development, education, water, jobs, health and most of all peace but not war, Sool region is part of Somaliland territory and in this case were the defenders not the aggressors,” he said.
He further added, “Defending our country and its territorial integrity is an obligation not an option, so urge Puntland and the federal government of Somalia to stop further aggression against the Somaliland territory in the future. Sool and Eastern Sanaag region are located within Somaliland British colonial borders. It is integral and inseparable part of independent Somaliland hence our determination to defend our borders at any cost as any other country would do. The borders of Somalia, Somaliland, Djibouti or any other Africa country have the same international status and legitimacy because they all had been drawn by European Colonial powers.
Lastly, the FM urged Puntland administration and the federal government of Somalia to stop all hostilities towards people of Somaliland.
