Mogadishu 1st September 2015—-The Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia H.E. Omar Sharmarke today received high ranking delegation led by Katie Wheelbarger who serves as Policy Director and Deputy Staff Director on the Senate Armed Services Committee.
Accompanying Prime Minister Sharmarke was his Minister for Defense Abdulkhadir Diini, issue relating to strengthening the security were discussed. In particular the ongoing process of integrating the National Army.
Also issues such as the upgrading the capacity of the Ministry of Defense were discussed. In order to attain a strong civilian oversight within the Ministry itself. The U.S, delegation promised to take part in strengthening the ties between the Armed Forces and the Ministry of Defense so that a professionalism and chain of command can be inserted amid the two entities.
Prime Minister Sharmarke thanked the U.S. government for its continuous support to Somalia, in particular the Security field. And underlined that Somalia still needs assistance to establish solid and well established Armed Forces.
“The process of integrating the National Army is still ongoing, at present there are several camps established nationwide and we hope success in that aspect which would be a cornerstone for nation building” said Prime Minister Sharmarke
