Dr. Hassan Ismail Yusuf, Minister of Health development leading MoHD emergency response team on Thursday delivered medicines and sanitation supplies to cyclone affected residents of the Bullahar, a coastal town in Sahil region.
“The ministry of health has brought medicine and hygiene kits to respond quickly to the needs of these crisis-affected people and we shall continue to provide life-saving aid without delay,” he said.
The health minister added, “After the cyclone struck, the MoHD dispatched rapid assessment teams to report on the condition on the ground and identify require immediate intervention. He further informed residents that the ministry has begun the distribution of health emergency supplies medicines, Aqua-tab for water treatment , hygiene/ sanitation kits meant to prevent the outbreak of diseases.
Currently, two SRCS mobile teams are providing both health and nutrition services. The bullahar health center is working probably providing all its service.
Mr. Ismail Hassan Mohamed, the Bullahar district administrator briefed the health minister on the situation.
On 5th of June, two teams led by the health Minister and deputy minister assessment of cyclone affected areas in Awdal and Selel regions.
On the 19th of May, the devastating cyclone struck coastal regions, pounded the coastline with winds reaching up to 120km/h. At least 53 people died and close to 700,000 people are in need of humanitarian assistance.
The two teams have spent four days in those areas and generated a report which was detailing the assessment.
